From the 1970s industrial zone in the suburbs of the coal-mining city of
Katowice was a significant centre of a fight against the regime. Year
1981 was one of the peaks in the manifestation of discontent. As a reaction
to burdensome situation of the majority of the population living under
the subsistence, collective strikes and convulsions were at run. In order
to hinder the possible social changes, the government imposed martial
law. Among others it also meant absolute control and disconnection of
all communication canals, introduction of censorship, control of personal
mail and restriction in free moving of civilian. Isolated strike centers
